4 p.m. – Day of the Dead Procession – Join us with Calacas and face painting at Belvedere park’s Virgen de Guadalupe Mural Located at, the corner of Cesar Chavez Ave. & Mednik Avenue

5 p.m. – The event begins at the East Los Angeles Civic Center. Come celebrate Day of the Dead with Self Help Graphics. This years celebration will feature music, community altars, many food vendors and local arts & Craft vendors!

Project Luz

About the Project:

We are 20 students in Nezahualcoyotl, Mexico prepared to start our own community news project with daily broadcasts and online posts to our community (and you!) using various platforms. We already possess basic photojournalism skills thanks to Project Luz.

Over the course of 6 months, we will set up the platforms and begin news reporting, writing and publishing our stories to our worldwide audience. Our mentor, a San Francisco-based journalist, audio producer and sound artist, is ready to spend her time, energy and resources to turn us into youth journalists within our community.

Now, we just need your backing and you can watch it all unfold!

Students will be informed of project success at the completion of their summer audio/photo workshop.

Budget for 20 students / 6 months includes professional equipment for every student includes SLR cameras, field recorders, microphones, headphones, laptops with editing software. Additional expenses for web designer, printer, projector, cell phones, website, housing, food, transportation.
